About

Sometimes half-baked musings on the built environment, design, and how things should really be. From Vancouver, Japan, California, or wherever I may be so lucky to roam.

The name of this site refers to a quote from the American architect Louis Kahn…

If you think of Brick, you say to Brick, ‘What do you want, Brick?’ And Brick says to you, ‘I like an Arch.’ […] it’s important, you see, that you honor the material that you use.

…which, let’s face it, is both kind of metaphysically beautiful and utterly ridiculous at the same time—often like architecture itself. The quote was also incorporated into a scene from the 1993 movie “Indecent Proposal,” a fact that, for whatever reason, I find hilarious.
